about

Thrive Karen Inc. is a registered charity and social enterprise based in the United States. We have been helping ethnic Karen students affected by war in Myanmar and Thailand gain access to education since March of 2022. Seven decades of ethnopolitical war, directed by the Burmese Military, have left Karen students with endless obstacles to education. Learn more about the struggles faced by the Karen here. We partner directly with schools in remote areas to understand and support their greatest needs related to student achievement, staffing, and facilities. Each year we identify 2-3 projects of focus that promote sustainable education. These can range from supporting a community with funds and materials to build a roof over their school to providing tuition vouchers so students from remote villages can obtain a secondary education, which is often only possible outside their village. Our organization has volunteers on the ground in Myanmar, Thailand, and The United States who are dedicated to our mission and understand that education is a human right not only reserved for those born into privilege.

Mission

Vision

Thrive Karen is a group of Karen and American education partners seeking to promote sustainable education solutions in order to improve the educational equity of ethnic Karen students worldwide.

Thrive Karen envisions a world in which equitable education is available to all children, no matter their ethnicity, income, or location.

Our mission is grounded in the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) framework developed by the United Nations to create "peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future." SDG 4 recognizes the need to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. As an organization, we acknowledge the inequities present within the education of Karen students and seek to promote sustainable solutions for the future.
